Doula (doo-la) - Doula (doo-lah) - literally translated from Greek as “woman servant or helper." Traditionally, woman were surrounded by other more experienced women as they labored. The emotional and physical support that this provided was enormous. Today we have the doula to help fulfill this vital role, and as a result, women are experiencing shorter, less complicated, and more empowering births.

What I do, as your doula:

I combine my experiences, both personal and professional, with my educational training to provide emotional support and assistance to you and your family, before, during, and after your birth.

As your doula I can answer questions, guide you with positions, help with a variety of coping practices, and assist you in developing your Birth Plan.

As your doula I do not:

Perform clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, and others. I am there to provide only physical comfort, emotional support, and advocacy.

Make decisions for you, although I will help you get the information necessary to make informed decisions. I will also remind you if there is a departure from your Birth Plan.

Speak to the staff on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you and suggest options, but you or your partner will speak on your behalf to the clinical staff.

My doula package consists of:

• At least two (2) prenatal visits, where we get to know each other, and where you can begin to share your hopes and your Birth Plan.
• The birth, where I arrive whenever you need me, and stay as long as requested.
• Two (2) postpartum visits, the first one as a check-in a couple of days after the birth. Then a second visit, a few weeks later to share your birth story and to bring you a healthy meal. This visit also affords me the opportunity to admire your baby and to assist you with any postpartum concerns you may be having.

Additionally included in this package is one full-body prenatal/postpartum massage or one prenatal/postpartum yoga session.

Postpartum doula:

The postpartum period is an often overwhelming and exhausting time for the new family. I am also available as a postpartum doula, where I can provide lactation support, run errands, prepare meals, and assist with baby-care. Most importantly, I am there to nurture you, the new mother by creating space for you to rest, heal, and bond with your new baby.
